Bernadette: A Delicate Script Font for Creative Projects

I was in the middle of preparing a batch of handmade candles when I realized my label design needed something more. The previous font felt too formal, and the new one I had tried was too casual. That’s when I discovered Bernadette. It was like finding the perfect thread to tie together the warmth of my product with the charm of my brand.

Bernadette is a stylish and delicate handwritten font, not too thin and not too thick, balanced and varied. Its personality is gentle yet expressive, making it ideal for anything that needs a personal touch without being overwhelming. As a maker, I love how it feels like a real pen stroke on paper, giving every project an authentic, handcrafted vibe.

Crafting Labels with Bernadette

I started by designing candle labels with Bernadette. The font’s soft curves and subtle variation gave each label a unique feel. I used it for names like “Serenity” and “Evening Glow,” and the results were beautiful. The balance between elegance and simplicity made the labels stand out without overpowering the minimalist design of the candles.

Bernadette also worked well for other product labels—like my handmade soap jars and jar candles. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for pricing and descriptions, which helped keep everything readable while maintaining a cohesive look across my shop.

Invitations and Stationery

When I designed wedding invitations for a client, Bernadette became the star of the show. I used it for the main title and then paired it with a simple serif font for the rest of the details. The result was elegant and inviting, perfectly capturing the romantic tone of the event.

I’ve also used Bernadette for birthday cards, thank-you notes, and even farmhouse-style signs. The font has a warm, approachable feel that makes it great for personal messages and decorative wording. Whether it's a small tag or a full-sized poster, Bernadette adds a sense of care and thoughtfulness to every piece.

Wall Art and Planner Pages

One of my favorite uses for Bernadette has been in printable wall art. I created a series of quotes using this font, and they turned out beautifully. The softness of Bernadette complemented the cozy, homey themes of the designs. I also used it in planner pages, where it added a nice contrast against neutral backgrounds and helped make the content feel more personal and engaging.

For digital printables, I found that Bernadette works especially well for short phrases, titles, and decorative elements. It doesn’t get lost in larger text blocks but shines when used as a display font. This makes it versatile for both digital and physical products alike.

Designing Merchandise and Packaging

I tested Bernadette on tote bags, mugs, and shirts, and it always brought a charming touch to the designs. On fabric, it maintained its readability and didn’t look too cluttered. For packaging, I used it on boutique tags and holiday gift boxes, where it helped elevate the overall presentation and gave the products a more premium feel.

When working with cutting machines like Cricut or Silhouette, I noticed that Bernadette cuts cleanly and consistently. This is important for stickers, signs, and other cut-out designs, ensuring that the final product looks just as good as the mockup.

Font Pairing and Commercial Use

Bernadette pairs well with a variety of fonts. For a modern look, I often combine it with a clean sans serif font. For a more traditional feel, a simple serif font can be a great match. When creating branding materials, I recommend checking the font’s included styles, alternates, ligatures, swashes, and weights to ensure it meets your design needs.

If you're planning to use Bernadette for commercial purposes, such as selling physical products, templates, or digital downloads, it's important to confirm that the font includes proper commercial licensing. This ensures that you’re using it legally and confidently in all your creative endeavors.

Bernadette is a font that feels like a trusted companion in the creative process. It brings warmth, elegance, and a touch of personality to every project it touches. Whether you're designing labels, invitations, wall art, or merchandise, Bernadette is a font worth exploring for its versatility, charm, and ability to enhance the beauty of your work.
